The Connect logoThe first cohort of the Connect Young Leaders Programme celebrated completing the programme on Sunday 28 April at St Andrew’s, Churchdown.

Run over 8 sessions by Senior Youth Connector, Barrie Voyce, the programme helps 13-19-year-olds explore what it means to be a Christ-centred leader in all aspects of their life, not just church. It covers topics such as vulnerability and accountability, communication, influence and planning. The programme explores the leadership of Nehemiah and how we can learn from his example of “See, Feel, Pray, Act” when it comes to being the change we want to see.

Senior Youth Connector, Barrie Voyce said:

“It’s been so exciting to journey with this group over the past few months, getting to know them and seeing them come to know themselves and the call on their lives as individuals and collaborators with each other and God. They have been amazing, prepared to give everything a go and not hold back, even when we’ve challenged them out of their comfort zones.”

The group were asked to score how confident they were in their leadership on a scale of 1 – 10 before the programme and then again at the end of the programme. This resulted in an average increase of over 35%.

One of the graduates remarked:

“I understand now that Jesus is with me and I have the abilities to lead my school Christian Union.”

Another reflected:

“It has helped me focus on Christ instead of just being a good generic leader.”

Another member of the group said:

“The last session brought it all together, as I have been able to use what I’ve learned to write down my goal for my future leadership and I feel more able to make it become a reality.”

The Young Leaders Programme was developed with Onelife Leaders, a Christian Charity based in Hammersmith, London. The group were treated to a personalised message from OneLife director Liz Bewley as they received their certificates.
