Shapes for Living is a free 5-week Lent Course.
Jesus says, ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full’ (John 10:10).
As faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called ‘to work for the flourishing of all people and the flourishing of the whole of creation’. ‘Life in all its fullness’ is the gift God wants for all of us. But if we are to live that calling well we will need to find a sustainable, nurturing shape for our own lives, so easily over-busy with the stressful and overwhelming demands of modern living.
This course:
- offers a fresh way of exploring what is traditionally called a Rule of Life
- is about the whole business of being alive – with ourselves, each other and God
- is a way of growth, transformation and flourishing
- helps to hold us true to our beliefs, values and priorities.

If you can stream the video from Youtube, each video includes embedded subtitles; simply click the subtitles button on the video itself (pictured below)
(B) Playing subtitles when not connected to the internet
This is a slightly more involved process:1) Download the video (.mp4) and subtitle files (.srt) here;
2) Place both the video .mp4 file and the subtitle .srt file in the same folder – the default download location will be a folder called ‘Downloads’ on your computer – you can move the files from here if you like. Don’t rename the files – ensure the video and corresponding subtitle files remain named identically, eg. ‘SfL Session 1 Relating.mp4’ and ‘SfL Session 1 Relating.srt’;
3a) On a Windows PC: Open the video mp4 in Windows media player, and the media player settings will then give you access to overlay subtitles;
3b) On a Mac: Download the free VLC media player and install it on your Mac as you would any other program. Launch VLC and click the ‘Media’ menu option in VLC. Click ‘Open File’ and then select the movie .mp4 file. Click ‘Open’ and then click the ‘Video’ menu option and then click ‘Subtitles Track’ and then ‘Open File’. Select the .SRT file and then click ‘OK’ to enable the .SRT file’s subtitles on your video.
