Are there people in your parishes who you can see might have a calling to self-supporting ministry? Do you have a sense that God might be calling you to serve in this way?
Bishop Robert is hosting an online event for anyone interested in exploring the opportunities of Ordained Self-Supporting Ministry on Monday 11 October, 7.30pm till 9pm on Monday.
Hear from some of the people currently serving as self-supporting ministers, have conversations around it and explore whether this could be something for you.
SSM ministry is vital to the health of the church, emphatically not in a sense of ‘filling the gaps’ when there are fewer stipendiary clergy but as part of encouraging a diversity of ministry. SSM clergy bring to the church and to their ministry the experience of the whole of their lives, work, family, community links, they are of all backgrounds some younger and some older.
Jade, below, has a dual calling to be a nurse and a priest.
In terms of age it will help you to know that the process from beginning discernment to ordination takes usually at least 5 years.
