“Evangelism, do we really need to talk about this right now?
“We’re up to our armpits in Christmas stuff, volunteering to steward services, preparing oranges, counting candles, arranging flowers and Christmas trees, choir practice, preparing talks etc. Not to mention shopping, family and the rest.
“With all that’s going on, let’s make Evangelism a bit easier then shall we.
“Evangelism is the act of sharing a message, a message of Good News.
“Not all of us find it easy to talk to others about our faith, and some find it hard to talk about Jesus himself, unsure of where to start or how it may be received. Christmas is a great opportunity for all of us, shy or otherwise, to help bring someone closer to Jesus.
“Each year we pick people to pray for during Thy Kingdom Come, and in our own daily prayers, we bring friends and family before God asking for his help, his presence with them. But then what?
“At many of the Christmas services and events, our friends and family have the opportunity to hear that message of Good News.
“A personal invitation followed by mince pies back at your place, or a pint nearby could do the trick. It could also be a chance for you to find out more about where they are with faith. You could ask whether they went to church as a child, whether they believe in Jesus or not, you could even say something about why you believe.
“Remember, it’s the person who doesn’t usually come to church who is making a big step joining you, so look after them and help them relax and enjoy the season. This year could be the year that some fruit is seen from those prayers, it could be the year they start to think about what faith in Jesus could mean for them.
“You have a very special message to share as you help make disciples. You are a living breathing story of who Jesus is and what he means to you. Let’s make the most of whatever chances we get this year to share Him with others.”
