On Monday 7 October it was a year since the horrific terrorist attacks of Hamas on Israel. The atrocities inflicted on people of all ages were violent and savage, and ripped apart families and communities. I will never forget my poignant and painful meetings with the courageous families of hostages, and I continue to cry out for the release of those who are still alive, and the release of the bodies of those who have been killed.
Over the past year there has been further atrocity with the devastation of war and suffering in Gaza, and the Occupied West Bank and now Lebanon, and there seems to be no end to the terrible escalation of violence, killing, trauma and injustice, coupled with an absence of mercy. Today, as we pray for all who weep and grieve, may we continue to pray for peace and justice for all, and strive to speak up for the dignity of every human being – each one created in the image of God.
