Celebrating the Accession of HM The Queen

Published: Monday February 7, 2022

Down Ampney held a special Service of Choral Evensong on Sunday, to commemorate HM The Queen’s Accession to the Throne.

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended the service at Cirencester Parish Church.

As part of the service, there was a celebration of the music of British composer Vaughan Williams, who was born in Down Ampney 150 years ago. His music was featured at HM The Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

The Duke and Duchess have agreed to be Royal Patrons of a year of celebrations to mark 150 years since the composer was born.

This will include events and concerts throughout the year. In October, a new stained glass window, made by the stained glass artist Tom Denny as a tribute to Vaughan Williams, will be unveiled.
