HLF Grants for Places of Worship Scheme to close

Published: Tuesday May 2, 2017

Adam KlupsFrom August/September 2017, the current Grants for Places of Worship programme will close to new applications. In its place, funding for repairs to places of worship will be available through HLF’s existing Our Heritage (up to £100,000) and Heritage Grants (up to £5million) programmes.  ChurchCare has produced a briefing note explaining the implications of the changes for churches and outlining the Church of England’s position. It also suggests how we might respond, both at a policy level and in practical ways

The Historic Religious Buildings Alliance has added significant new material to its webpages over the closure of the HLF Grants for Places of Worship Scheme. On  a practical level it includes guidance on how to apply now, for the remaining GPOW rounds and to the other HLF grants programmes

There will be two more application rounds in 2017:

15 May 2017 for a decision in September 2017

14 August 2017 for a decision in November/December 2017

Please note that the above changes do not affect the government’s grant scheme for reimbursing expenditure on VAT (called the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme).
