Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation that has been supporting families worldwide for over 140 years. Started by founder Mary Sumner in 1876 in her local parish, the organisation has grown into an international charity with over 4 million members in 84 countries.
Members vary in age and are both male and female, but what they share is a desire to support families and married life.
The current President of the Gloucestershire branch is Doreen McLellan and she has a board of trustees and office holders.
Locally, some of the activities the Mothers’ Union is involved with include parenting programmes, working with HMP Eastwood Park Prison and knitting for children’s hospitals and for the elderly. They have an active prayer ministry for families all around the world.
