What is HR?

HR is the ‘organisational function’ that deals with people. Supporting and developing managers, dealing with ‘people issues’ across the breadth of an employment relationship – from recruitment and selection, training, concerns and issues, legal compliance, and best practice.

Who’s Who:

Alice is the HR Advis0r who supports the Diocesan offices and the Cathedral with their HR on a day-to-day basis and is on hand for parish related enquiries and issues.

Kate manages our DBS systems so links across Safeguarding and HR and safer recruitment practices. She has a key role in supporting parishes with data management questions.

Kate works weekdays except Weds, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

 

About HR in the Diocese

The key role for Human Resources for parishes is that we are here to support churches and PCCs in their responsibilities for employees and volunteers. This can include anything from recruitment, data protection, employment advice and guidance, to employee relations and employment laws.

Alice Clark support our churches and PCCs with their employment related issues. These can include template policies, contracts, and general advice and guidance. Popular questions include issues such as: pensions, redundancy, payroll, data protection, health and safety, disciplinary, competency, sickness absence.

  • Advice and guidance for clergy and PCCs generally, and also where there are discussions taking place to employ/appoint a member of staff or volunteers: Clergy and Parish Handbook

  • Template documents for recruitment processes such as application forms, offer letters, interview questions, contracts of employment; advice on job descriptions, salaries, pensions, etc.

Safer recruitment

This workshop is aimed at those who are recruiting paid staff or volunteers into roles within churches. The focus is on Safer Recruitment and good HR practice. GDPR: The new General Data Protection Regulation comes into effect in May 2018. This new regulation will replace the Data Protection Act (DPA).

Payroll

We are in the process of being able to offer PCCs the option of using the central diocesan offices to run any payroll you may have, free of charge, from early 2018.  This will be of real benefit where PCCs would like to outsource their PAYE, NI, pensions and so on.  We are in the pilot stage for the next couple of months to make sure we have the right systems in place to issue payslips and recover the PCCs’ salary costs.  If you are interested please call or get in touch with us to find out more.
