The West Midlands Racial Justice Initiative (WMRJI) has shared a new resource:
Creativity for Belonging: 10 Parish Actions for Racial Justice
It offers a range of simple and practical ideas to help parishes take small but meaningful steps towards becoming more welcoming and inclusive communities.
The resource is intended to be a helpful starting point. It recognises that every parish is on its own journey, and that change often begins with small, faith-led steps.
Many of the suggestions need little or no funding, but some of these ideas might inspire a project or piece of work where funding can be sourced from the West Midlands Racial Justice Initiative Microgrant Scheme. PCC’s can apply for up to £1,500 and it is really easy to apply.
Lucy Taylor, Deputy Diocesan Secretary, said: “These 10 simple ideas help parishes take a fresh look at church and community life. The ideas range from ‘storytelling pulpit exchanges’ where you team up with a nearby UKME/GMH congregation for worship and a meal, to checking if your noticeboards look welcoming and inclusive.
“When you are planning out the week’s worship, having these ideas really helps you look at inclusion in a new light. It’s a great reminder that even tiny changes can make a big difference.”
