If your A-level results or those of someone close to you weren’t what you hoped for, it may feel as though everyone else has a plan while you’re left wondering what comes next.
A-level results matter, but they do not define your future, your worth, or your calling.
Some people know exactly what they want to do after school. Others discover their direction by trying something new, serving others, stepping outside their comfort zone and learning more about themselves. Sometimes the most meaningful opportunities emerge when life doesn’t go according to plan.
A different kind of gap year
Future Youth offers young adults aged 18 to 29 the chance to spend a year growing in youth and children’s ministry through placements, training and mentoring.
Rather than rushing straight into another course or career path, you’ll have the opportunity to spend a year developing practical skills, building confidence, exploring your faith and discovering where God might be leading you.
You don’t need all the answers – many people join because they’re still working out their next steps.
Whether you’ve just finished school or college, left university, or found yourself rethinking your next steps, Future Youth creates space to explore your future while making a real difference in the lives of children and young people.
Discover what you’re capable of
During the programme, you’ll work alongside experienced youth and children’s leaders, helping with activities in churches, schools and communities.
You’ll receive training, mentoring and support as you learn and grow. You’ll be encouraged to try new things, develop leadership skills and build experience that will be valuable whatever career path you choose in the future.
Most importantly, you’ll have time to reflect on the bigger questions:
-
- What am I passionate about?
- How can I make a difference?
- What might God be calling me to do?
- What kind of person do I want to become
You don’t need perfect grades
One of the great things about Future Youth is that there are no academic entry requirements.
You don’t need top grades, years of experience or a detailed ten-year plan. What matters is your willingness to learn, serve and grow.
The programme is looking for people who have:
- An active Christian faith
- An interest in working with children or young people
- A willingness to learn and try new things
- An openness to God’s calling on their life
- A year to dedicate to the experience
A DBS check will be required, and a driving licence can be helpful in a rural diocese like Gloucester, but it isn’t essential.
A year that could change everything
Many people spend years trying to discover what they’re meant to do. Future Youth offers the opportunity to invest a year intentionally in your faith, your skills and your future.
If results day hasn’t gone the way you hoped, don’t assume a door has closed.
Perhaps this is an opportunity to explore a different path—one that could help you grow in confidence, deepen your faith, develop practical experience and discover where God is leading you next.
