At this year’s Chrism Eucharist, as we gather as a Diocese to renew our shared commitment to ministry, Bishop Rachel and I invite you to consider if you would join with us in expressing our wider partnership in the Gospel by making a contribution to the work of our link Diocese in Western Tanganyika (DWT).
In May this year, DWT will be holding a gathering for clergy and their spouses, some 500 people —an opportunity for teaching, encouragement, and strengthening the life of the Church in a region where faithful ministry is exercised in challenging circumstances. This is being largely self-funded, but Bishop Emmanuel has asked whether we might stand alongside them in meeting the remaining balance of £3,500. This request comes not out of dependency, but out of the mutuality that sits at the heart of our diocesan partnership: a recognition that we share one calling, one hope, and one purpose in Christ.
In a world marked by deep division, and in a Church that continues to wrestle with its own differences, gestures of solidarity such as this become powerful signs of unity. As we gather at the Chrism Eucharist—clergy, lay ministers, and representatives from across the Diocese—we recommit ourselves to the ministry we share, remembering that the oils we will take from that service are for the blessing of the whole Body of Christ. Supporting Western Tanganyika at this moment allows us to live out that calling with generosity and grace.
You will be able to give during the collection at the service. If you would prefer to make a contribution ahead of the service, you can do so by BACS to the details below:
Account name: Bishop of Gloucester
Sort code: 20-33-83
Account number: 43991709
Reference: DWT CONF
Thank you for considering how you might join in this expression of shared mission and fellowship.
