The Church of England is inviting everyone to take part in #ChurchDoorChallenge this summer by sharing photos of your local church door on social media.
It’s a national campaign, from 15 July to 31 August, created by the Church of England to celebrate the hospitality, history and diversity of churches across the country.
There are almost 400 churches in the Diocese of Gloucester. Each one has a unique story, community, and architectural style. Take the church door at St Edward’s in Stow (pictured) which has two yew trees growing around its frame – it is believed to be the source of inspiration for ‘the Doors of Durin’ at the gates of Moria in JRR Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.
How to participate
Step one:
Capture a photo or short video of your church door or entrance. Focus on its design and historical significance. You can use interior doors too.
Step two:
Upload your photo or video to your preferred social media platform—Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, or TikTok.
Step three:
Include the name and location of the church in your post. Feel free to highlight special activities or services that invite the local community to step through those doors.
PS If someone else took the photo, be sure to credit them in your post.
Step four:
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #ChurchDoorChallenge before posting. This ensures that our team can find and share your wonderful contributions.
Every week, we will feature our favourite submissions on our national social media accounts and link them to AChurchNearYou.com, encouraging even more people to discover and visit their local churches.
