The Revd Jo Pestell, Vicar of St Catharine’s Gloucester and Gloucester City Area Dean, will be skydiving at the start of May to raise money for local community outreach.
Jo, who is well-known for her creative approach to ministry, said, “I’m turning 50 at the start of May, and thought it was a great moment to take the plunge and do a skydive!
“I have decided to do it to raise money for our community outreach work at St Catharine’s where I am the vicar. During the pandemic, we have helped many families with food and a listening ear. This work is expanding in a number of new directions, and the funding we have for Angharad Nairn (the person who coordinates this and broader work with children and families) comes to an end this year.
“So it would be a great birthday present for me if you are able to give some money to sponsor my jump on 6 May and help us begin to raise more funds for this important role. Thank you so much!”
The work the church is doing is making a big impact within the local community. Jo is aiming to raise £1,000.
One lady who has been coming to the church’s events said of St Catharine’s,
“God is really in this place. This is heaven on earth, and I can really see God’s work being done here in all you are doing. Sometimes God takes you right down into the pits before you can come back up, but God has put friendly, kind, and helpful people here to support me and lift me up. What a wonderful, friendly, caring, and organised team. This is the best venue with the best activities, but it’s more because God is really here in His people.”
