From helping children grow in confidence to making sure every pupil feels included, Coaley Primary Academy’s latest Ofsted report highlights the school’s focus on helping children learn, develop and feel part of a community.
Choosing a primary school is a big decision for any parent. Alongside achieving academically, you want to know your child will feel happy, make friends and get the support they need to thrive.
Following an inspection on 22 September, Coaley Primary Academy received praise for its pupils’ achievements, behaviour, attendance and the care they receive.
The report highlights that children “achieve very well in this school across all subjects” and talk about their learning with “confidence and enthusiasm”. Inspectors also recognised how teachers check children understand their lessons and step in quickly when extra help is needed.
Every child learns differently, and the report highlights how staff use individual plans to identify each pupil’s strengths and where they may need more support. Inspectors also praised the school’s approach to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), noting that teachers are well trained to adapt lessons so everyone can take part.
Just as important is how children feel at school. The report recognises Coaley’s ‘strong pastoral approach’, which helps pupils develop independence and resilience as they grow.
There’s plenty happening beyond the classroom, too. Every child has the chance to learn a musical instrument, while assemblies, trips, visiting speakers and clubs give pupils opportunities to explore new interests and discover what they enjoy. Inspectors highlighted how these experiences help children ‘raise their aspirations for the future’, with school leaders also working to make sure everyone can join in.
