New Bishop elected in our partner diocese

Published: Monday December 6, 2021

Bishop-elect, Emmanuel BwattaA new Bishop has been elected in our partner diocese of Western Tanganyika.

Emmanuel Bwatta, Principal of Lake Tanganyika Theological College has been appointed Bishop-elect and will succeed Bishop Sadock in January 2022.

The diocesan partnership team has strong links already with Emmanuel through our work with the theological college and its students.

Emanuel says, “I am so humbled for being elected to succeed Bishop Sadock Makaya. The people in DWT have demonstrated a huge trust in me and I feel indebted to them. This is an opportunity for DWT and Gloucester to strengthen our partnership.”

Please hold Emmanuel in your prayers as he prepares for his consecration and continue to pray for a happy and peaceful retirement for Bishop Sadock.

There are many ways to be involved in the DWT-Gloucester Partnership:

  • Form a partnership: with a church, a school, or a church group such as a prayer group, Mothers’ Union etc.
  • Sponsor a Bible College student: many students come to LTTC for training for ministry from rural areas and struggle to pay the fees. We run a personal sponsor programme, whereby you will be linked to your own student to share photos, letters etc. Sponsorship costs £270 per year.
  • Support financially: there are many projects that we support from Gloucester, such as helping to build new churches and facilities and helping individuals in their studies. A little here goes a long way, and every donation is a sign of our friendship and support. If you would like to donate, we will let you know the current needs, and send updates about how your money has been used.
  • Keep in touch: join an email list so that you receive updates from DWT, prayer requests and college newsletters.

Please be in touch with our Link Officer the Revd Helen Sammon on moc.l1695693876iamg@1695693876nomma1695693876s.nel1695693876eh1695693876 for more information and an informal conversation.
