The Revd Malc Allen, Rector at St Michael and All Angels Bishop’s Cleeve, Cheltenham, and Trainee Pioneer Minister Lucy Barbour have been taking their congregation outside for a special monthly service on Cleeve Hill near the golf course.
The spectacular views of Gloucestershire which can be seen from the top of Cleeve Hill are a real blessing which the church wanted to enjoy together. Malc enjoys running, visiting locations in the Wye Valley, Woolacombe, and Sudeley Castle and posting about the sheer joy of being out in nature on his social media feeds.
He and fellow sports enthusiast Lucy wanted to allow people to experience God and also relationships with others, in the great outdoors. The group met for a short walk to the top of the hill, with conversation and then some time to reflect on the beauty that was around them.
Malc said, “In the last 18 months, being outdoors with green space, being in the company of others, and being appreciative of the natural world, has been so helpful to our mental health.”

Lucy said, “It was wonderful to join together for our second Church on the Hill this morning. We walked, talked and prayed, whilst considering God’s presence in our surroundings and reflecting on his closeness. Thank you to all those who came.”
There will be other chances to join with the church as they spend time in nature soon. Visit the St Michael’s Church Bishop’s Cleeve Group Facebook page for the latest updates.
All are welcome to come along.
