Carving a space for conversations
Stonecarver the Revd Dr Royse Murphy is hoping to spark some conversations about faith at an ecumenical exhibition of life through faith and faith-inspired art at St John's Northgate Street in Gloucester.
From 10am to 4pm over the Bank Holiday weekend, Royse and fellow stonecarver Deborah Harrison will be drawing in the crowds with a live demonstration of stonecarving on a covered walkway outside the church hall.
Methodist minister Phil Summers, who is a street artist, will be joining them and there will be displays of textiles and other art as well as refreshments inside the church. Fresh Expressions in Gloucester will be highlighted through a dedicated table in the church hall.
Royse said, "Our intention is to have conversations about faith or really almost anything with passers-by. I am completing a sculpture at the moment called 'First Light', based on John 1:9, which I intend to display as well as other works."
