The Diocese is proud to work alongside Lives of Colour, one of our valued partner organisations, whose work is helping to build more inclusive communities and create opportunities for young people across Gloucestershire.
Last month, students from schools across Cheltenham took to the catwalk to showcase their wearable art creations at the Young Designers Showcase, held at the University of Gloucestershire’s Francis Close Hall Campus Chapel.
The runway show brought to a close an eight-month project led by Lives of Colour in partnership with the Cheltenham Education Partnership (CEP). Inspired by the theme ‘Potpourri of our Society’, students were invited to explore identity, heritage and belonging through fashion, combining national African flowers with familiar British icons in imaginative and thought-provoking ways.
Designs included a Kenyan Orchid paired with a Victoria sponge cake, a Congolese Waterlily inspired by Big Ben, and a Nigerian Yellow Trumpet Flower combined with Anne Boleyn’s distinctive Tudor headpiece. Together, the collection reflected the many influences that shape our communities today.

Projects run by Lives of Colour reflect the diocese’s shared commitment to racial justice, celebrating the dignity of every person, encouraging young people to explore different cultures, share their own stories and learn from one another, and helping to build stronger, more connected communities.
