The panel was hand-painted by families that attend their new all-generation service, ‘StJs’. It was unveiled at the start of Churches Count on Nature 2025 which took place last week.

Erica Siddall, diocesan Net Zero Carbon Project Manager who worships at St James’, said: “Our families at StJs have been banding together to learn more about the treasures outside the church, in the churchyard. We completed a nature survey a number of months ago and decided to follow it up with creating an interpretive panel for the whole community. We completed it over a few months. It was so exciting to take the idea from start to finish.

“We hope the sign will help everyone to come to enjoy the space even more, and recognise its intrinsic value. It’s for the community, and we are hoping it will be appreciated by the community, well into the future.”

St James’ is planning more eco-themed events, and they aim to work towards achieving their Eco Church Bronze award:”We are hoping to do a bats and hot chocolate evening in autumn once the days are shorter,” Erica said. “It is fun to find small things that might make a big difference.”
