‘Do you encounter God through music?’ This is the question being posed by the Growing Faith Foundation, on our behalf, to children and young people across the country in the next few weeks.
We have asked this question because engaging children and young people with God through music has a high profile in the Diocese of Gloucester. From Cathedral and church choirs to iSingPOP events, DJ Revd Steve mixing worship songs, to the rhymes we share in toddler groups.
As adults, we know that music can help us to feel and experience the divine, that lyrics and melodies stay in our minds and hearts in a way that sustains us; but what do children and young people think about music themselves?
This is what we hope to find out by asking this question. We encourage you to share this question appropriately, with any children and young people in your churches, schools or families.
We ask that the children and young people submit their answers electronically to the Growing Faith Foundation team, by following the link here. This will take you to the question, and there will be a quick and simple way to respond underneath.
Their answers will only be shared with adults who are committed to using the feedback to improve the work they do. The responses are completely anonymous, so it won’t ask for your name or any personal details.
We invite you to watch this video from the Growing Faith Foundation, which shows the opinions of children and young people who were asked ‘does music make you feel closer to God?’ at Derby Cathedral:
