Family calmness events

All events are free and no booking is required.

Sound bathing, Tuesday 20 August, 11am to 3pm

Experience a family sound bathing session in the Chapter House, an ancient technique for stress relief. This event also features sensory activities such as herb guessing games, brass rubbing, mindful drawing, and medieval games. Sessions occur hourly throughout the day.

Books and reflection, Tuesday 13 August, 11am to 3pm

Explore the library collection in Chapter House and engage in related activities like journal making, brass rubbing, mindful drawing, and garth designing.

Arts and crafts, Thursday 8 August, 11am to 3pm

A day of engaging craft activities and sensory experiences, including mindful mandala making, candle holder crafting, brass rubbing, mindful drawing, designing a garth, and medieval games.

Wellbeing Olympic trail, Saturday 20 July to Monday 2 September, Cathedral opening hours

Tackle each challenge in this Olympics themed adventure and earn your spot on the winner’s podium.

 


Yoga sessions

Movement and family yoga, Thursday 1 August, 11am to 3pm

Free family yoga sessions are taking place throughout the day in Chapter House.

Morning yoga, Saturday 3, 10, 17, 24 August, 8.30am to 9.30am

Experience Gloucester Cathedral before public hours as part of a small group. Enjoy yoga led by experienced practitioner Lucy in the Medieval Cloister and Garth garden. Bring your own mat or use one provided, and arrive early for a health questionnaire. This adult-only session costs £10.

Adult yoga for all abilities including reduced mobility, Wednesday 21 August, 1pm to 2pm

This free adult yoga session, tailored for those with reduced mobility, is adaptable to your needs, whether you prefer a mat on the floor, a chair, or standing.


Taizé services

Experience the peaceful, meditative Taizé services taking place throughout August. Held around the Labyrinth, these candlelit services focus on simple worship with repeated phrases to aid meditation and prayer, offering a glimpse into monastic life from 800 years ago.

Walk the Labyrinth

Experience a centuries-old tradition by walking the Labyrinth in the Nave over August. This replica of the Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth in France invites you to explore at your own pace during regular opening hours. Traditionally used for meditation and prayer, the Labyrinth offers a chance to reflect and find stillness amidst life’s busyness.

Chill on the Green

Relax on Cathedral Green every Friday afternoon this July and August from 12pm to 4pm. Enjoy live acoustic music, street food, and a tranquil atmosphere.

Historical events

Family archaeology day, Saturday 27 July, 11am to 3pm

Try your hand at archaeology with a miniature dig in front of the Cathedral. Handle recent finds and participate in a photography treasure hunt. It is part of the Gloucester Festival of Archaeology, organised by Gloucester Civic Trust and Gloucester Cathedral in collaboration with local heritage venues.

Talk: Henry VII & Elizabeth of York: The Marriage that Made the Tudors, Saturday 3 August, 7pm

Join author and historian Nathen Amin in the Parliament Room for an engaging talk that explores the pivotal union of Henry Tudor and Elizabeth of York, which ended the Wars of the Roses and established the Tudor Dynasty. The event includes a discussion, a Q&A session, and a book signing.
