Clergy Day: Learning to think and pray the Gospel of John

Published: Thursday November 1, 2018

Emeritus professor of Divinity, Cambridge UniversityThis week, Professor David Ford, Emeritus Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, spoke at our Clergy Day on his specialist subject; the Gospel of John.

Asking the question ‘Who is Jesus?’, Professor David led us through the Gospel in grouped discussion sessions. Speaking passionately on overarching themes in the Gospel he says, “This is the core of reality. The whole Gospel, it seems to me, is designed to draw us deeper into that relationship [with God], that’s where we dig, this is the love at the heart of the whole of reality. So in other words, we’ve gone from God and all things, as big as you can, to radical intimacy at the heart of reality, this relationship.”

The full sessions are available in the video below. Session 1: Learning to think and pray the Gospel of John. Session 2 (from 53 minutes): Learning to live the Gospel of John.

In his own words, “As usual, there’s fifteen years more of thought about this!”
