Service of Thanksgiving in the 30th Year of South Africa’s Democracy
The South African High Commission in London is delighted to invite the public to a momentous Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey. This service marks three decades of democracy in South Africa, reflecting on the nation’s struggle against apartheid and its ongoing journey towards equality and justice.
Special Guests and Performances:
• Speakers: Christina McAnea, Lord Paul Boateng, and a representative from the South
African government
• Participants: The Bishop of Croydon, Rt Rev Rosemarie Mallett
• Music: Special performances by Innocent Masuku, fresh from Britain’s Got Talent, along
with the Abbey special services choir
This service will honour the sacrifices made in the fight for democracy up to 1994 and recognise the efforts of anti-racist campaigners, community leaders, and academics working to address the ongoing impact of apartheid and colonialism. It will also celebrate the progress made by South Africa over the past three decades.
We invite all community members, supporters, and friends to share in this significant occasion. Your presence and support are invaluable as we reflect on the past, acknowledge the present, and look forward to a future grounded in justice and equality.
Doors are open at 10.30am and people need to be seated by 11.30am.
Tickets can be booked via EventBrite here.
