Music and the holy: beyond metaphor, into mystery
Music and the holy: beyond metaphor, into mystery is a talk by the Revd Canon Dr Rebecca Hall. Rebecca is Canon Chancellor and Director of Learning and Participation at Gloucester Cathedral. Previous to this she was a Bishop’s Chaplain, and a Priest Vicar Choral at Lichfield Cathedral, and in a parish in the Diocese of Southwark. She trained for ordination at Westcott House and Jesus College, Cambridge.
She has a lifelong passion for music and holds a doctorate in historical musicology, awarded by King’s College London for a thesis on theological approaches to the music of JS Bach.
She says “Drawing on musicological study and experience as a priest I will argue that we can and must go beyond metaphor and analogy into a way of understanding music’s power as invitation into a drama, one which opens up to us the mystery of God’s love.”
Drinks and nibbles will be available from 7pm.
