Celebration of Lay Ministry with the admission and licensing of Readers 2026
All are welcome
You are invited to attend the new look Diocesan Celebration of Lay Ministry with Admission and Licensing of Readers at Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday 19 September 2026. The new ‘Celebration’ format will see the licensing and admission of Readers taking place within a context of a broader celebration of lay ministry. As well as encouraging our Readers, we want to recognise and celebrate the ministry of all God’s people. Indeed, there will be a part of the service that recognises and affirms those lay people who may be new to a particular ministry within their worshipping communities, whether that be pastoral, liturgical or missional.
From 12.30pm: Eucharist in the Lady Chapel. Open to all
1.15pm-2.45pm: Stalls set up in the Cathedral Cloisters highlighting some of the lay ministries exercised across the Diocese.
3pm: Celebration of Lay Ministry Service with the Admission and Licensing of Readers. A service recognising, affirming, celebrating and encouraging lay ministry.
Whether you’re a children’s minister, a foundation governor, a chaplain or serve as a welcomer, all lay people and the ordained people that support them are invited to this joyful gathering.
No booking required, turn up from 12.30pm and enjoy the afternoon of celebration!
