Tewkesbury Abbey Theology Forum: The Work of CMS in Paraguay: the Énxet people and their Bible

Tuesday May 12, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
‘The Work of CMS in Paraguay: the Énxet people and their Bible’ is the next Tewkesbury Abbey Theology Forum.
This talk is by Tim Curtis. Tim is a Church Mission Society mission partner, from Tewkesbury, who has lived and worked amongst the indigenous Enxet people of Paraguay as a linguist and bible translator since 1983. He has also helped dubbing film into indigenous languages and will talk about some of the challenges he has faced.
The Énxet are an indigenous people of about 17,000 living in the Gran Chaco region of western Paraguay. Originally hunter-gatherers, many are now forced to supplement their livelihood as labourers on the cattle ranches that have encroached upon their dwindling natural forest habitat.  Only a handful of Énxet are still maintaining their traditional way of life, while the majority live in small settlements.
The meeting is on Tuesday 12 May, in the Parish Hall, with drinks and snacks from 7pm. The talk starts at 7.30pm.
Tim’s talk will give us a fascinating insight into the life and challenges for these indigenous people, as well as telling us all about his work with them.
