A message from Bishop Robert regarding changes to the support offered to those in Self-Supporting Ministry.
“I want to express heartfelt thanks to the Revd Canon Kay Mundy for her work as our Self-Supporting Ministry Officer for the last three years. I know that so many have benefitted from her care and from the way in which she has linked us to the national networks.”
Kay said, “Thank you to all the SSMs for the time and experiences that we have shared together, for all your involvement, comments and fun. Our ministry is strong and such an important service to God; I am continually amazed and inspired by the wide range of roles and dedication that you give in your ministry.”
Kay is now putting down this ministry and I am delighted that the Revd Mark Dunning is taking up a slightly reshaped role as Bishop’s Advisor for Self-Supporting Ministry. Mark is an SSM curate in the Newent Benefice. Before ordination, Mark enjoyed a career in teaching and educational leadership, latterly in London. He trained here in the Diocese of Gloucester as part of the CGH programme and, alongside his parish commitments, maintains his links with schools through his role as the Chair of Governors of a church school and also as a Bishop’s Visitor. Mark will work as part of the small team of Bishop’s Advisors in the Department for Mission and Ministry and with Bishop Rachel and me in caring for and promoting the ministry of Self-Supporting Clergy.
Mark said, “I am excited and delighted to be asked to take on this role in which, as Kay has done, the community of SSMs in our diocese can be supported and encouraged in their many-faceted roles. I look forward to working in support of the Bishops and the Director of Ministry and Mission in helping all of us involved in the life of our churches to grow and develop in our SSM Ministry – and to getting to know all of you better in the coming months.”
I am sure you would want to join with me in expressing our thanks to both Kay and Mark.
