The Church of England has launched ‘The Great Switch for creation’ campaign to encourage churches across the country to reduce their environmental impact by making ‘the Great Switch’ to a green tariff.
This initiative is part of Creationtide, which runs until 4 October, during which time worshipping communities celebrate the gift of God’s creation. Making the switch to a green energy tariff is one practical way that churches can support our shared target of achieving net zero carbon emissions from the Church of England by 2030.
By opting for a green tariff, your church can help reduce the overall carbon footprint of churches in our diocese and across the country, and support a more sustainable approach to energy use.
Choosing the right green energy supplier can feel complicated, so The Church of England has put together some guidance to make the process easier → access this here. You can:
- Follow a guide to make a switch to a green tariff – directly reducing your church emissions.
- Make a pledge to switch – if you’re not ready to change suppliers yet, you can still commit to taking action in the future.
Taking steps like this is a way to care for God’s creation and to act responsibly in our local communities. While switching is important, we need to be thinking about this alongside a commitment to reducing our energy usage.
