Six people were confirmed with one adult and a teenager baptised before their confirmation, in a joyful outdoor service at St James’ Quedgeley.
The Revd Dr Mark Siddall, Priest in Charge at St James’, Quedgeley said, “There is something special about full immersion baptism outside. It is closer to Jesus’ baptism by his cousin John in the River Jordan and connects us closely to that event. This year at St James Quedgeley one adult and one teen were baptised by Bishop Robert in a large paddling pool and then confirmed.
“With the paddling pool as a clear reminder of their baptism, four people were confirmed alongside them.
“I have seldom seen smiles like it when, with the support of family and friends, the baptism candidates came up from the water as Bishop Robert immersed them three times in the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
“Laura, the teenager pictured, had the support of many of her family and was so very happy to make her commitment to Christ in this very special way. The picture of Laura coming up from the waters of baptism (taken by Paul Nicholls Photography) is one that I will remember and will encourage me in my own faith for many years to come! It is that same picture which encouraged, inspired and reminded all of the confirmation candidates as they affirmed the promises made in their name as infants. A unique and miraculous commitment between ourselves and the God who first loves us.”

Bishop Robert said, “It was such a privilege to baptise and confirm Lauren and to share in her great joy as she took this step into her life as a member of our Church family.

“Laura’s baptism and confirmation, along with the others who made that choice at the same time, served as a welcome reminder of the blessing, peace and fulness of life that are given to us when we answer Jesus’ call with a ‘yes’.”
