Bishops’ charity choices for episcopal collections 2025

Published: Tuesday January 28, 2025

A church without a roof in Tanzania Bishop Rachel and Bishop Robert have chosen three charities to receive donations from the services they lead in 2025. The collections taken at these services are known as ‘episcopal collections’.

The charities and partners benefitting from the episcopal collections this year are:

The Bishop of Gloucester’s Discretionary Fund

A dedicated fund that allows the Bishop to offer small, timely grants to clergy and laity facing unforeseen financial burdens. It enables her to respond quickly, often when no other source of help is available, to individuals and families in need. The fund is also used to buy small gifts as tokens of appreciation and for occasional honoraria.

Church roofs in Tanzania

Numerous new churches are being constructed in our partner Diocese of Western Tanganyika in Tanzania. The local congregations are enthusiastic about making bricks, but the most challenging part of each construction is the roof.

As a result, there are several churches without roofs, and help is needed to buy the necessary materials. Once the churches have roofs, Bishop Emmanuel will inaugurate them, providing communities with their own facilities for worship and bringing more people to Christ.

Diocese of Dornakal in IndiaInternational Partnership Bursaries for Theology

The Diocese of Gloucester will provide a bursary of £1,500 to a student from one of our partner dioceses, Dornakal in India. This bursary will enable the student, whether lay or ordained, to pursue higher education studies that will enhance their own mission and ministry, as well as that of the diocese they serve.

If you would like to donate directly to any of these charities, please use the following account details:
