General Synod Hustings
If you are a member of your local Deanery Synod you are invited to attend an online husting to hear General Synod candidates talk about why you should vote for them.
The Hustings will take place via Zoom on Monday 4 October from 6 pm -7 pm. Clergy and laity hustings will be held separately and you will be sent the relevant zoom link when you register. For the small number of candidates who are not able to attend the live event, they will pre-record their opening and closing statements and provide responses to the pre-agreed questions and these recordings will be played during the Zoom meeting.
The Diocese of Gloucester is able to elect 3 members of the House of Clergy and 4 members of the Laity to the General Synod. Following the close of the nomination period on 8 September, there are 8 clergy candidates and 8 lay candidates. We will now hold a ballot to elect individuals to the General Synod.
The voting period for the current General Synod elections is open until 23:59 on 8 October.
If you would like to attend the hustings please email Kerry Pateman, ku.gr1733424947o.coi1733424947dsolg1733424947@name1733424947tapk1733424947 to register.
If you would like to submit a question for the candidates, please also send it to Kerry Pateman, ku.gr1733424947o.coi1733424947dsolg1733424947@name1733424947tapk1733424947 by 5pm on Friday 1 October. We will be selecting four questions from those submitted by the electorate to best reflect the issues raised.
We anticipate that the hustings will last no longer than 1 hour.
If you have provided your email address for the purposes of conducting Synodical business you will receive an invitation to vote from Civica (who are hosting the online nominations and voting portals). If you have not provided an email address, you will receive a hard-copy voting paper in the post. The voting period opens on 17 September 2021 and ends on 8 October.
Copies of the election addresses for each candidate are provided below.
If you do not receive an invitation to vote or hard copy voting paper, but you think you are eligible to vote, please contact the Presiding Officer, Laura Chesham (ku.oc1733424947.vwv@1733424947yrtsi1733424947gerre1733424947tsecu1733424947olg1733424947 / 07741310636).
