The ancient parish chests at the West of Severn Benefice

The West of Severn Benefice is opening its churches for people to view their ancient parish chests.

There will be children’s activities and refreshments, and an additional surprise at Hartpury: a chest (in very poor condition), believed to have been used by Catholic nuns who were given sanctuary at Hartpury after fleeing from French revolutionary armies in 1794. This is an early example of the diocese’s ecumenical activities.

Admission to all churches by presentation of booklet is available at any church for £5.

Saturday 12 July: All churches open from 10am to 4pm

Sunday 13 July: All churches open from 2pm to 4pm (except Staunton from 2.45pm)
