SUMMARY:Exploring Chaplaincy course
DESCRIPTION:Have you every wondered about being a chaplain? \n \nThese days there are chaplains in all sorts of places\, not just in hospitals and prisons. There are chaplains in primary schools\, GP surgeries\, town centres\, workplaces\, care homes\, law courts\, and even racecourses. You might be able to think of a possible chaplaincy opportunity near you. \nSome chaplains are paid\, but many are volunteers\, giving perhaps just one afternoon a week. Some are ordained\, but many are lay people. You don’t have to be an expert in anything to be a chaplain. You don’t need to be a super confident evangelist. You just need to be able to come alongside other people where they are\, showing God’s love through your listening and your care. \nExploring Chaplaincy is a course for people who want to think about this often-overlooked ministry. Could it be for you? Might there be an opportunity to develop chaplaincy from your church\, in your parish? The course is both for people who are already involved in chaplaincy and also for those just beginning to consider the possibility. \n  \nThe six meetings of the course will cover: \n\n What is a chaplain? What is distinctive about chaplaincy\n Don’t just do something  The importance of presence\n The cloak of compassion  Pastoral care and being prophetic\nTwo ears and one mouth  Listing to people\, listening to place\n Say one for me  The spirituality of chaplaincy\n Where we you go from here?  First steps\, support\, and supervision\n\nThe course is free. \nIt will run from Wednesday 14 January to Wednesday 25 February (with a break on 18 February) between 7.15pm – 9.15pm\, meeting at Francis Close Hall in Cheltenham. \nTo access the booking form before 14 January please click here \nFor more information please contact Simon Witcombe switcombe@glos.ac.uk

SUMMARY:Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse
DESCRIPTION:There is a requirement that the Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse Training course is completed by all clergy\, PTO\, Readers\, Bishop and Pastoral visitors\, Parish Safeguarding Officers\, PCC and lay chapter members. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. Therefore\, we will all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. \nThe aim of the module is designed to equip participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected. \nWe recognise that not everyone will wish to complete modules online so we are also offering some face-to-face sessions. This might be a good way to ensure that people feel safe and supported when accessing the training\, particularly with this module. \nThis course will be run at Church House\, 5 Denmark Road\, Gloucester\, GL1 3HW \nTo book a place\, please email: ku.gro.coidsolg@gniniartgnidraugefas

SUMMARY:‘If only you knew what made for peace’\, by The Very Revd Canon Richard Sewell
DESCRIPTION:The Very Revd Canon Richard Sewell\, Dean of St George’s College\, Jerusalem is holding a talk in Tewkesbury Abbey\, called ‘If only you knew what made for peace’. Living and serving in the heart of the Holy Land since 2018\, Dean Richard has become a globally respected spokesperson and a regular voice on international media regarding the tragedies in Israel and Palestine. \nWith a background in major inter-faith projects and decades of ministry\, he offers a rare eyewitness perspective on the conflict. His ‘radical empathy’ and deep theological insight provide a unique bridge across bitter divides. In a time of simplified headlines\, this is a vital opportunity to hear a nuanced\, compassionate reflection on the ‘way of peace’ from someone at the centre of the situation. \nRefreshments are from 2pm. \nFor more information\, contact info@tewkesburyabbey.org.uk
