SUMMARY:My Life and My Choice? Exploring the Assisted Dying Debate
DESCRIPTION:This lecture is led by the Revd Canon Professor James Woodward and hosted by The Severn Forum. \nIt will offer an overview of some of the issues and questions for society\, healthcare and Christian theology that are posed by the question of choice at the end of life. It will draw on some of the experiences of the Commission on Assisted Dying in 2010- 2011 and subsequent on-going public engagement with so many narratives of the right to die. \nCanon Professor James Woodward is the Principal of Sarum College and is a practical theologian who specialises in health and healing\, Christian ethics\, old age\, theological reflection and end of life care. He has worked in a variety of settings in ministry including health care chaplaincy\, parishes and theological education. \nThis lecture is sponsored by The Montgomery Trust. \nAll are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:If you’ve always wanted to take your group away to a Christian Summer Camp\, but lack the numbers\, volunteers\, or energy to do so\, worry no more! \nThe Connect Team want to bring like minded leaders together\, join them up and send them out to experience the spiritual and relational highs of taking a group away\, whilst sharing the planning\, organising and stresses between them. \nWe’ll be looking at what camps are out there\, what’s suitable\, and exploring some of the logistical challenges. \nBy the end of the evening we hope we’ll have a plan of who’s doing what\, and more importantly\, who’s taking their group where. \n  \nThere will be two opportunities to meet together online: \n27 February 2025 \n4 March 2025 \nPlease click here to sign up if you would like to be included on the meeting invite. \n  \nThese meeting will be organised by the Youth Connect Team\, including Jo Wetherall (Senior Children and Families Connector) and Barrie Voyce (Senior Youth Connector). \nJo supports churches across the diocese in developing their work with children and families\, including the nurturing of faith in the home and school-parish relationships. \nBarrie leads the growing network of deanery youth connectors\, enabling and equipping effective youth ministry across the diocese.

SUMMARY:Responding Well to Domestic Abuse Training
DESCRIPTION:There is a requirement that the Responding Well to Domestic Abuse Training course is completed by all clergy\, PTO\, Readers\, Bishop and Pastoral visitors\, Parish Safeguarding Officers\, PCC and lay chapter members. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. Therefore\, we will all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. \nThe aim of the module is designed to equip participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected. \nWe recognise that not everyone will wish to complete modules online so we are also offering some face-to-face sessions. DESCRIPTION:As we approach the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine\, we open an invitation to a prayer service for peace in Ukraine. This will be held online via Zoom on Wednesday 19 February at 5pm (7pm Ukrainian time) \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/84853917927?pwd=qfn9t8STh6LclVKjVy52cagG4svbQ0.1 \nBishop Robert Innes (Diocesan bishop of the Diocese in Europe) will lead the service\, and we will hear reflections from Christina Stafiychuk-Laschenko Church warden in Kyiv\, and Revd Kasta Dip\, chaplain of Warsaw with oversight for our Kyiv chaplaincy. \nThe service will also share details of the re-launched appeal with USPG to support refugees from Ukraine and across Europe. \nChristians from across Europe have joined previous prayer services. \n\n

It’s a great blessing to me.” ~ We talk to Margaret Edwards about her experiences working with childrens groups – both as a grandparent\, and as a surrogate grandparent:\n \nJo Wetherall\, Senior Children and Families Connector\, introduces our events:\n \nEvents\nThere are two events in this series:\nThe Faithful Generations Event\, 1 February\, Gloucester Cathedral →\nThis Faithful Generations Workshop\, 11 February\, St Andrew’s Churchdown \n\n  \n \nBecky Sedgwick is the Parenting for Faith Resources Coordinator\, having joined the Parenting for Faith team in April 2017. \nBefore this\, she was a children and families’ worker in Devizes\, where she ran Parenting for Faith courses. \nA long time ago\, Becky got a degree in theology. Before St James’\, she worked in all sorts of non-theological places – at the Bank of England\, as a PA to a millionaire\, in a small company’s sales office and then as an admin officer for a primary school. \nShe lives in Devizes with her daughter Hannah\, where she is also a school librarian. She spends her spare time coaching the wonderful Devizes Netball Club. \n  \nThis workshop will be organised by the Youth Connect Team\, including Jo Wetherall (Senior Children and Families Connector) and Barrie Voyce (Senior Youth Connector). \nJo supports churches across the diocese in developing their work with children and families\, including the nurturing of faith in the home and school-parish relationships. \nBarrie leads the growing network of deanery youth connectors\, enabling and equipping effective youth ministry across the diocese.
