SUMMARY:Worship Leaders Course
DESCRIPTION:Feel called to lead worship in your context? \nThis course is designed to help you grow in confidence and understanding as you begin to lead worship\, especially Services of the Word. It will cover the practical aspects of leading\, but also dive into what worship really means — drawing on the Bible\, Christian tradition\, and the wisdom of today’s church. \nIt’s a supportive space where you will learn with and from one another. Before the course begins\, you’ll need to talk with your incumbent and agree your attendance. They will then seek PCC approval for your participation. By this point\, you’ll hopefully have already had some conversation about how you might serve in your local context. As the course goes on\, you’ll gain more clarity and confidence about how to use your gifts in your parish or benefice. \nThe course is led by the Revd Sarah Todd and the Revd Dr Joe Mottram. \nIt takes place every Tuesday\, 7pm to 9pm\, from 6 May to 24 June\, BUT there will be no sessions on the dates of 27 May and 3 June due to the half-term break. \nThere will be a review session on 1 July. \nFor registrations forms\, email sarah.todd@stbg.uk. \nFor any enquiries\, call 07534 720160.

SUMMARY:Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse Training
DESCRIPTION:There is a requirement that the Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse Training is completed by all clergy\, PTO\, Readers\, Bishop and Pastoral visitors\, Parish Safeguarding Officers\, all those who have a role with children\, young people and vulnerable adults and lay chapter members. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. Therefore\, we will all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. \nThe aim of the module is designed to equip participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected. \nWe recognise that not everyone will wish to complete modules online so we are also offering some face-to-face sessions. This might be a good way to ensure that people feel safe and supported when accessing the training\, particularly with this module. \nVenue: Church House\, Gloucester \nTo book a place\, please email: ku.gro.coidsolg@gniniartgnidraugefas

SUMMARY:Chrism Eucharist 2025
DESCRIPTION:On Maundy Thursday\, join us for this special service led by the Bishop of Gloucester\, the Rt Revd Rachel Treweek\, which includes the blessing of holy oils. \nAround 400 clergy and lay ministers will come together for the Maundy Thursday service\, where they will process through the Cathedral. They will then renew their vows of ministry. This service will be live streamed from the Diocese of Gloucester’s YouTube channel. \nThe name ‘Maundy’ comes from the Latin ‘mandatum’ meaning ‘commandment’. Christians remember Jesus giving his disciples the command to love one another just as he loved them\, at the Last Supper. It is for this reason that this day is chosen for clergy and lay ministers to renew their vows. \nThe service\, called the Chrism Eucharist\, includes the blessing of holy oils used in well-known church ceremonies. These are: Chrism Oil\, which is used at ordination and confirmation services; Catechumens Oil\, used at baptisms; and Oil of Healing\, which is used when ministering to the sick and dying. The clergy will take the blessed oils back to their parishes for use throughout the next year. \nThe service starts at 11 am on Thursday 17 April\, the Thursday before Easter Sunday. Christians remember this day for the Last Supper that Jesus and his disciples shared on the night before he was crucified. During this meal\, he washed their feet and also gave them bread and wine\, an act that established the service now known as the Eucharist. On the night of Maundy Thursday\, he was also betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane\, as he was handed over to the authorities\, who put him to death on Good Friday. \nAll are welcome to attend the service.

SUMMARY:Cancelled - Helping Children Transition to Secondary School
DESCRIPTION:This event is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Please contact Barrie if you would like some support with transitions. \n\nHelping Children Transition to Secondary School\nIt’s a familiar story: you have wonderful connections with your local primary school\, but when the children move to “big” school\, they seem to vanish. It doesn’t have to be this way! By nurturing relationships with children through Year 6\, you can support them as they take this significant step in their lives. This effort can also pave the way for a new church youth group\, building on the strong foundation established in primary school. \nJoin us and the team from The Rock as we share experiences\, resources\, and strategies to ensure that moving up to secondary school doesn’t mean losing touch. Let’s work together to make this transition smooth and supportive for the children in our care. \nJoin us for one of our sessions on 3 April 2025 at The Rock:\n10am-12pm\n7pm-9pm \nPlease click here to sign up. \n  \nThese meeting will be organised by the Youth Connect Team\, including Jo Wetherall (Senior Children and Families Connector) and Barrie Voyce (Senior Youth Connector). \nJo supports churches across the diocese in developing their work with children and families\, including the nurturing of faith in the home and school-parish relationships. \nBarrie leads the growing network of deanery youth connectors\, enabling and equipping effective youth ministry across the diocese.

SUMMARY:“Renewing Hope in Smaller Churches” gathering by ReSource
DESCRIPTION:ReSource’s primary call is to foster spiritual renewal in the little\, local and ordinary churches that represent the backbone of the Church. This is an opportunity for us to gather\, encourage one another and wrestle together with the realities of renewing hope\, particularly\, though not exclusively\, in those churches with smaller congregations. We intend the day and topic to be accessible to many in the area who are not yet part of the ReSource family. \nFacilitated by Jolyon Trickey and others\, with biblical teaching from David Newman\, formerly warden of Launde Abbey\, the day will offer an opportunity for teams and individuals to \n\nWorship and encounter God afresh;\nRenew confidence in the inextinguishable power of biblical hope; and\nWrestle with the practicalities of living hopefully in the local church.\n\nWe will also pray for each other\, enjoy a good quality lunch and offer anointing. \nIf you would like to join us\, please do book your place. \nWe recognise that many of our invitations come from word of mouth or through personal recommendation\, so do please invite colleagues or local friends who might value the attached invitation or enjoy attending the day? A flyer is available to download here.

SUMMARY:Christian Aid Restore campaign: workshops and webinars
DESCRIPTION:The International development agency asks people to back new global call for debt justice. Christian Aid is calling for change to the unequal global debt system which robs millions of families of the chance of a better life. \nA series of workshops and webinars have been organised to give people more information on the issues and on how they can join the movement. \nThe charity was one of the founding members of the Jubilee 2000 international movement which won $130bn of debt cancellation owed by 35 of the poorest countries. \nChristian Aid and its supporters are now urging the UK Government to tackle the twin issues of global debt and the climate crisis which are still trapping millions of people in poverty. \n\nJennifer Larbie\, the charity’s Head of UK Advocacy and Campaigns\, said: \n“For too long\, the UK Government has backed the world’s biggest polluters and greediest corporate lenders\, fuelling the climate and debt crises\, and leaving communities struggling for survival. \n“Weather has become more severe and erratic which means crops are failing and people are struggling to feed their families. On top of this\, many at risk of climate disasters are also in a debt crisis; debt payments prevent governments from addressing their citizens’ basic needs or responding to the climate crisis. \n“But it doesn’t have to be this way. The UK is uniquely placed to act. It has the power to confront polluters and lenders who are driving the climate and debt crises. Cancelling debts and forcing polluters to pay for the damage they’ve done would provide governments with more resources to spend on health and education\, help communities recover from climate disasters\, and build resilience against future shocks. \n“We look forward to welcoming supporters to these online gatherings where we will be able to offer information\, and hopefully inspiration\, on this vital work to restore creation and to see the flourishing of all people.” \n\nTo register for the online sessions\, which start on Wednesday 26 March\, please visit the Christian Aid website and click on Get Involved and Campaigns.
