SUMMARY:Raising awareness of domestic abuse
DESCRIPTION:There is a requirement that the Raising awareness of domestic abuse course is completed by all clergy\, PTO\, Readers\, Bishop and Pastoral visitors\, Parish Safeguarding Officers\, PCC and lay chapter members. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. Therefore\, we will all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. \nThe aim of the module is designed to equip participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected. \nWe recognise that not everyone will wish to complete modules online so we are also offering some face-to-face sessions. This might be a good way to ensure that people feel safe and supported when accessing the training\, particularly with this module. \nTo book a place\, please email: ku.gro.coidsolg@gniniartgnidraugefas

SUMMARY:GoodWill Event
DESCRIPTION:Have you got questions about Wills\, Probate & Power of Attorneys? Have you got no idea how to plan or pay for a funeral? Concerned about the eco nature of your death? Want to know about ‘Swedish Death Cleaning’? Slightly concerned your cat might eat you if you die alone? (no seriously!) \nWe’ll tackle all this and more at our ‘GoodWill’ event. \nThey say that there are two things in life that are inevitable\, death and taxes. However\, it has been proven by large corporations and a smattering of celebrities and MPs that taxes can be avoided; death\, on the other hand\, is a 100% guarantee. Why\, then\, is it still such a taboo topic? \nAt this event you’ll hear from a funeral director\, a solicitor\, a death education specialist and others in the industry and you’ll be able to ask any questions you may have about anything from funeral planning to leaving a bequest to your church\, whatever you want to know\, we’ll have the answers. \nCome along for a surprisingly light and informative event\, we promise it won’t be weird! \nThis workshop will be running on three different dates in three different locations. Please choose the one that is most convenient to you. \nRefreshment will be included. \nClick here to book this event. \nLisa- Jayne Lewis – Stewardship and Giving Advisor \nLisa-Jayne helps church leaders to think about how they can preach and teach about money\, how churches can find ways to increase their income\, find grants and think about regular giving and  financial stewardship as part of our Christian discipleship.

SUMMARY:Preaching the Lectionary Gospel - a year with Luke
DESCRIPTION:At the start of Advent we will tip into year C – reflecting on\, studying and hearing from God through the Gospel according to Luke. As we follow the lectionary through the year\, we do so with the Anglican Communion\, many other denominations\, nations and people groups. It’s a wonderful thing! \nEach week another glimpse at the life and ministry of Christ\, treasures to ponder and wonder about. And before we begin\, here is a great opportunity to remind yourself\, or to study for the first time\, the whole narrative of Luke\, the context in which he was writing\, as he writes this\, his first contribution to our scriptures. \nOur colleagues from Cuddesdon\, Gloucester and Hereford Training will be leading us through this and it is promising to be a rich and inspiring time together. \nLed by: Revd Dr Richard Wyld\, Director\, Portsmouth Pathway Cuddesdon \nHaving taught on the Portsmouth Pathway for a couple of years before becoming Director in May 2020\, Richard joined the academic staff team based at Cuddesdon in July 2024. He teaches on a range of courses and areas of ministry\, though his main interest is with biblical studies\, hermeneutics\, and especially the New Testament. He trained for ordained ministry at Cranmer Hall\, and then paused ordination to study for a PhD in Durham\, looking at Christian hope as a framework for thinking about what is happening when we read scripture. He was ordained in 2013\, served his title in and around Sherborne in Dorset\, and was chaplain to the Bishop of Portsmouth from late 2017-2020.  Richard enjoys finding ways to make scripture and theology as accessible as possible to all\, and believes that everyone has a voice in the enterprise. He lives with a rescue dog\, enjoys walking and painting\, and is approximately one half of post-hardcore talk music duo\, ‘Rails\, Witnesses’. \nThis event will run on Monday 4 November starting at 7pm or Tuesday 5 November at 10am \nTo book your place on either of these events please click here.

SUMMARY:EcoChurch Resourcing: Coffee Shop Gathering
DESCRIPTION:EcoChurch Resourcing events are currently focussed on informal gatherings in coffee shops\, in various locations across the Diocese.  They are opportunities to bring questions\, to share joys and frustrations\, and to find out what others are doing nearby.  Often conversations develop about what could be done by working together.  Ecumenical partners are welcome to join the conversation – we have close links with other churches through GCEJN so it seems appropriate to do this together. \nPop in for as long as you are able to join the conversation with Cate Williams (our Environmental Engagement Officer). If you need to come late or leave early\, that is absolutely fine.  We look forward to dreaming together about what could be possible in our churches and communities. \n \nNew dates will be advertised\, as they are set.  The idea is to find a date with a few people in each place and then open it up to anyone who’d like to join the conversation.  Cate welcomes invitations from any location across the Diocese. \nNext date is 12 November 2024 / 10.30am at The Ark Café\, Newent. \nThere is no need to book but if you have time please register your interest
