Please use this form to let us know you are coming.\nFaithful Generations Welcome Flyer\n\n\nWatch:\n \n“Being a surrogate grandmother’s a huge joy\, a privilege too\, and I’ve loved it. It’s a great blessing to me.” ~ We talk to Margaret Edwards about her experiences working with childrens groups – both as a grandparent\, and as a surrogate grandparent:\n \nBooking\nIt would be much appreciated if you could let us know if you are coming via: this form to help us with our planning and preparations. \nEvents\nThere are two events in this series:\nThis Faithful Generations Event\, 1 February\, Gloucester Cathedral\nThe Faithful Generations Workshop\, 11 February\, St Andrews Churchdown → \nJo Wetherall\, Senior Children and Families Connector\, gives more detail on the events:\n \n\n\n  \nDo you know how the children you know and care for think or feel about God whatever their age? \nHave you ever pondered what it would be like to go to a DJ set with a teenager? Or how a four-year-old would represent you as a gingerbread person? \nHave you ever promised out loud to pray for each other? \nWondered what would it be like to dance together in worship\, explore the wonder of creation in a fir cone\, dress up and take a silly picture together? \nOr just sit and have a chat in the marvellous space of Gloucester Cathedral. \nAll this and much more will be available to explore through our Faithful Generations event. \nActivities\nGingerbread people – Icing and sprinkles galore. Recreate yourselves in gingerbread form. \nDecorated doves – How do we say thank you to God for each other? Mary and Joseph took doves to the temple. What would you give? \nCandle display – At Candlemas we turn from Christmas and look towards Easter from the dark of winter to the light of Spring. Decorate your candle to show how you light up the world. \nPhoto booth – Dress up as each other take a funny photo and upload it to the QR code. \nFridge magnets – Create a fridge magnet and swap them as a promise to pray for each other. \nPeg it! – Write or draw a prayer – who can you peg it to without them noticing? Keep on passing the prayer. \nThe beauty of glass – Create a beautiful window which talks about your relationship with God or a favourite Bible story. \nTable Talk – Take a seat\, pick a card and just have a chat for a few moments. \nTable Talk for Toddlers – Go on a shape and colour hunt through the cloisters or a nature hunt in the garden. \nThe empty chair – When someone has died\, the love we have for them lives on\, and they continue to influence our lives. Use the materials to remember someone you love but see no longer. \nSensory spaces – Throughout the Cathedral are small quiet spaces and baskets/activities to explore together. \nWhisper trees – What would you like to whisper to God? What would you like God to whisper to you? \nPrayer station 1 – Opportunity to reflect and pray for families of all generations risking their lives to escape danger\, often leaving homes\, traditions\, family history and\, very probably\, elderly family members not up to the journey\, finding God’s story through photographs and pictures\, and much more. \nPrayer station 2 – Treasured stories. Listen to each other’s story round the ‘campfire’ some prompts to help tell it. \nPrayer station 3 – Use prayer spaces to explore your relationship to each other\, God and the world. \nGodly Play – People often talk about life as a journey. Come and hear the story of one family’s journey and what they discovered about God and each other along the way. \nDance Workshop – An inclusive workshop where anyone can take part to create a dance to share in our celebration worship at the end of the Faithful Generations day. We will be exploring the different ways we talk with God using a mix of thoughtful and uplifting music and experiencing the awe and wonder of dancing in the wonderful Cathedral setting. \nDJ Set – Join Dj Rev Steve who uses energising dance tracks to help us to learn about and worship God. Be prepared to dance! \nUneven Song \nEvensong\, our prayers as the sun is setting\, is a very beautiful and ageless service where choirs sing the thoughtful words of psalms and of Mary\, Jesus’ mother and Simeon who blessed baby Jesus in the temple. \nAs we remember Mary and Joseph taking baby Jesus to the temple our ‘Uneven Song’ will use some of this timeless tradition\, but will also include dance and songs to sing together\, our display of candles and doves will celebrate the peace of God and light of Christ. Bishop Rachel will invite us to join in with her as she shares her thoughts about this time of year and what it means for our lives. \nBooking\nIt would be much appreciated if you could let us know if you are coming via: this form to help us with our planning and preparations. \nEvents\nThere are two events in this series:\nThis Faithful Generations Event\, 1 February\, Gloucester Cathedral\nThe Faithful Generations Workshop\, 11 February\, St Andrews Churchdown → \nFlyer\nPrintable flyer for Faithful Generations event \n  \n  \nThis event will be organised by the Youth Connect Team\, including Jo Wetherall (Senior Children and Families Connector) and Barrie Voyce (Senior Youth Connector). \nJo supports churches across the diocese in developing their work with children and families\, including the nurturing of faith in the home and school-parish relationships. \nBarrie leads the growing network of deanery youth connectors\, enabling and equipping effective youth ministry across the diocese.

SUMMARY:'The Priest's tale'
DESCRIPTION:This is the riveting true account of an escape from the devastation of Hiroshima by the first atom bomb\, told dramatically by actor Michael Mears in St Gregory’s Church\, St James’ Square\, Cheltenham on Friday 31 January at 6.30pm (doors open from 6). \nThe 1-hour performance (hosted by Cheltenham Laudato Si’ Circle) will be followed by a Q&A. Refreshments available. Admission is free\, retiring collection to meet the expenses of Michael Mears’ forthcoming tour to take performances to North America. \nThe ‘Tale’ is that of a German Jesuit priest who survived the dropping of the bomb\, nearly 80 years ago. Award winning professional actor/playwright Michael Mears adapted it from John Hersey’s book ‘Hiroshima’\, described as ‘the most celebrated piece of journalism to come out of World War II’. \nFr Wilhelm Kleinsorge\, living and working in Hiroshima\, witnessed the blast\, the fire and much of the destruction\, later succumbing to radiation sickness. His story is told in a clear-eyed manner\, full of compelling detail\, and rounded out with warmth\, compassion and flashes of humour. It depicts both the pity of war and the terror wrought at the start of our nuclear age. Suitable for audience age 14+. \nJo Siedlecka\, writing in Independent Catholic News\, describes The Priest’s Tale as ‘An extraordinary piece of theatre: exceptional performance\, incredible script.’ \nThe event is free but there will be a retiring collection. \nBook your ticket here.

SUMMARY:Ageing Gracefully - a practical theology of later life
DESCRIPTION:We all like to pretend that ageing only happens to others and not us. “Ageing gracefully” is a course for those who are ready to face up to this reality. Through biblical themes we will try to understand God’s purposes in a long life. \nTogether we will explore how Christians might respond to the challenges we often face towards the end of our earthly life – both in ourselves and in caring for those we love. What might it mean to remain fresh and green still bearing fruit into old age? \nThe course will run over 6 sessions lasting 2 hours with a coffee break. Each session is essentially Practical Theology – mixing biblical and church perspectives with my medical perspective on challenging issues around ageing. \n  \nCommences 23 January 2025 for 6 weeks \nSession 1: ‘What do I mean by Ageing?’\nSession 2: ‘God’s purpose in ageing’\nSession 3: ‘Finding Healing in the Fourth Age’\nSession 4: ‘Giving and receiving care’\nSession 5: ‘Dementia and personhood’\nSession 6: ‘Ars Moriendi’ \nThe course will be led by Dr Ian Donald. \nIan was a consultant in Old Age medicine at Gloucester until 2020\, having qualified from Cambridge and Edinburgh\, and trained in Nottingham. His long-standing interest in the organisation of services for older people in the community probably stems from his family background of general practice\, and in his last 10 years of work focussed on developing acute “front door” frailty services. He is married to Philippa\, a retired vicar who supports Revd Joe Knight in the Seven Towers Benefice\, and has three grown up married sons and three grand-daughters. He is a Trustee with Age UK Gloucestershire\, and he is Chair of Trustees at Harnhill Christian Healing Centre. Recently he has developed a 6 week course “Ageing gracefully” which he is facilitating around the Diocese. \n  \n  \nTo book your place please scan the QR code or click here

SUMMARY:Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse training
DESCRIPTION:There is a requirement that the Raising awareness of domestic abuse course is completed by all clergy\, PTO\, Readers\, Bishop and Pastoral visitors\, Parish Safeguarding Officers\, all those who have a role with children\, young people and vulnerable adults and lay chapter members. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men. Therefore\, we will all know people who are victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. \nThe aim of the module is designed to equip participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected. \nWe recognise that not everyone will wish to complete modules online so we are also offering some face-to-face sessions. This might be a good way to ensure that people feel safe and supported when accessing the training\, particularly with this module. \nThis course will be run at Church House\, Gloucester\, GL1 2LY \nTo book a place\, please email: ku.gro.coidsolg@gniniartgnidraugefas
