SUMMARY:Run the Race Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Therefore\, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses\, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely\, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us\, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith\, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross\, disregarding its shame\, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.  \nHebrews 12:1-2  \nHow do we run the race with endurance\, not falling into trying\, but rather training? \nWhat would it mean to make choices that allow us to flourish\, rest\, be more creative\, and joyful?  \nAs I have listened to felt needs around the Diocese\, how we are to manage our time\, make good choices about what to do and\, probably more importantly\, what not to do\, has come up all over the place. SUMMARY:Exploring Chaplaincy course
DESCRIPTION:Have you every wondered about being a chaplain? \n \nThese days there are chaplains in all sorts of places\, not just in hospitals and prisons. There are chaplains in primary schools\, GP surgeries\, town centres\, workplaces\, care homes\, law courts\, and even racecourses. You might be able to think of a possible chaplaincy opportunity near you. \nSome chaplains are paid\, but many are volunteers\, giving perhaps just one afternoon a week. Some are ordained\, but many are lay people. You don’t have to be an expert in anything to be a chaplain. You don’t need to be a super confident evangelist. You just need to be able to come alongside other people where they are\, showing God’s love through your listening and your care. \nExploring Chaplaincy is a course for people who want to think about this often-overlooked ministry. Could it be for you? Might there be an opportunity to develop chaplaincy from your church\, in your parish? The course is both for people who are already involved in chaplaincy and also for those just beginning to consider the possibility. \n  \nThe six meetings of the course will cover: \n\n What is a chaplain? DESCRIPTION:  \nWe have an exciting day coming up on 31 May at Brimscombe Mill\, engaging with the question I hear most often\, in myriad different ways; ‘how can we help our church thrive?’ \nWe will be exploring this with +Rachel in prayer\, with Carrie Myers [National lead on lay ministry] and with George Ling [author of Seven Sacred Spaces] as well as input from Grace Network and the Mission and Ministry Team. The whole day will be based around our Deaneries\, so that the thinking and learning we do can be relational and specific to context. Of course\, there will be delicious coffee and food from Long Table too! \n  \nThere are a handful of spaces left in a couple of our Deanery groups to be part of this significant day in the life of our Diocese. DESCRIPTION:Therefore\, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses\, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely\, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us\, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith\, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross\, disregarding its shame\, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.  \nHebrews 12:1-2  \nAre you a New Years Resolution person? All those great decisions and good intentions… it’s not that they are a bad thing\, right?  \nHow do we run the race with endurance\, not falling into trying\, but rather training? \nWhat would it mean to make choices at the beginning of the New Year that allow us to flourish\, rest\, be more creative\, and joyful?  \nAs I have listened to felt needs around the Diocese in these first six months\, how we are to manage our time\, make good choices about what to do and\, probably more importantly\, what not to do\, has come up all over the place. What is of greater concern is those of which we are unconscious. \nThis training\, which is part of our safer recruiting programme\, is open to anyone who wants to become more aware of their thinking. (no seriously!) \nWe’ll tackle all this and more at our ‘GoodWill’ event. \nThey say that there are two things in life that are inevitable\, death and taxes. However\, it has been proven by large corporations and a smattering of celebrities and MPs that taxes can be avoided; death\, on the other hand\, is a 100% guarantee. Why\, then\, is it still such a taboo topic? \nAt this event you’ll hear from a funeral director\, a solicitor\, a death education specialist and others in the industry and you’ll be able to ask any questions you may have about anything from funeral planning to leaving a bequest to your church\, whatever you want to know\, we’ll have the answers. \nCome along for a surprisingly light and informative event\, we promise it won’t be weird! \nThis workshop will be running on three different dates in three different locations.
