SUMMARY:Pastoral Assistants Course - Chipping Sodbury
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be a Christian in the 21st Century?\nThe next diocesan Pastoral Assistants Course starts on 14 September 2024 in Chipping Sodbury. Using an interactive workshop style the course covers a breadth of subjects aiming to equip people to be able to work in all manner of pastoral situations. \nPastoral assistants have a heart for others\, reflecting the care that God has for us to other people; sharing their joys and sorrows. Pastoral Assistants need to be able to relate with sensitivity to people at various stages in life\, those with varying degrees of Christian commitment  and with those who are searching. \nOnce trained\, Pastoral Assistants are commissioned and minister in their local parish or benefice. The role is specific to each  context\, formed to meet local needs which might include being part of a pastoral visiting team\, offering communion at  home\, bereavement support\, baptism preparation and more. \n  \n\nLed by Pauline Godfrey\, Head of Discipleship \n  \n  \nCommencing Saturday 14 September 2024\nCourse Dates:\nSaturday 14 September\nWednesdays– 25 September\, 2\, 9\, 16 and 23 October\, 6\, 13\, 20 November\nSaturday 7 December 2024. \n(Saturdays 9:30am – 4pm\, Wednesdays 2pm – 4pm)\nA packed lunch will be required for the Saturday courses.\n\nVenue:  St John’s Church Centre\, Wickwar Road\, Chipping Sodbury. DESCRIPTION:For anyone involved with Children\, Youth and Families ministry in the Diocese of Gloucester. \nMore than an ideas factory\, the ‘Introduction to Christian Ministry’ course is an opportunity to go deeper into your faith\, learn more about the bible and ministry in a local learning community with the option to work towards a qualification. \nTerm time only. She served as Worcester Diocesan Youth Officer where she advised all the churches on their engagement with young people as well as supporting educational chaplaincy in secondary\, further and higher education and supporting the Church of England Youth Council as chaplain. Sarah was on General Synod from 2015 to 2017 and has previously been on the National Board of Education.  She has been a school governor at three different CE Primary Schools\, including serving as both chair of governors and Safeguarding Governor. She was the chair of the trustees of Worcestershire YMCA and currently serves as Chair of the British and Irish Association for Practical Theology and as a trustee of the St Christopher’s Education Trust. \n

SUMMARY:Unconscious Bias Training
DESCRIPTION:We all have opinions\, are aware of it and make allowances. What is of greater concern is those of which we are unconscious. \nThis training\, which is part of our safer recruiting programme\, is open to anyone who wants to become more aware of their thinking. In two and a half hours we will: \n\nProvide an overview of the concept of unconscious bias and it’s impact;\nHighlight the differences between and importance of the concepts of diversity and inclusion;\nOffer tools and techniques to manage and reduce bias;\nAllow space to action plan for change.\n\nFuture Dates \n26 September 2024 6pm – 8:30pm\n22 October 2024 10am – 12:30pm \nIt is also possible for this course to be offered locally – in parish\, benefice or deanery setting.  \nFor more information or to discuss running a course in parish\, benefice or deanery setting please contact Pauline Godfrey on pgodfrey@glosdioc.org.uk \nTo book your place please click here.

SUMMARY:Godly Play Local Network - June 2024
DESCRIPTION:Are you using\, or interested in finding out more about Godly Play?\n \n   \nJoin us at St Mary de Crypt\, Gloucester to explore how we use Godly play in our different settings and learn more about the resources and stories.  \nThese meet ups will be led by Alison Summerskill our local Godly Play trainer and supported by Jo Wetherall Senior Children and Families Connector.  \n  \nWe will start with a meal at 7.30pm and finish by 9.30pm.   \n  \nDates for 2023/2024 are 15 November \, 6 March  and 5 June (this event). DESCRIPTION:  \nYouthscape Essentials \nYouthscape Essential is an innovative course for volunteers that increases your skills and understanding about working alongside young people today. Whether you’re running a community project\, a church youth group\, or occasionally helping out on a Sunday morning\, the course is designed with you in mind! It’s not about the numbers of young people attending\, it’s about putting God at the centre of your youth ministry.\nWe are offering the opportunity to book individual sessions for those who feel that they would benefit from specific training but cannot commit to attending the whole course.  \nTimings:  7-9pm\nLocation: St Catharine’s Church\, Gloucester\nCost: The course is FREE\, but we’d recommend purchasing the accompanying handbook – discounted through us at £11.50 each. \nBook here to indicate which sessions you would like to attend. \nSenior Youth Connector \nBarrie Voyce leads a growing network of deanery youth connectors\, enabling and equipping effective youth ministry across the diocese.
