Apprentice Stonemason Full Time: 39 hours per week

Fixed Term September 2025- August 2026

£22,222 per annum for Level 2 Qualified candidate

 

Gloucester Cathedral is looking for a passionate and committed individual who is seeking to complete their apprenticeship in the field of Heritage Masonry and Conservation.

This fixed term contract is for those who have completed NVQ2 Stonemasonry or an equivalent Level 2 Diploma and who wish to benefit from a year’s apprenticeship based at Gloucester Cathedral whilst undertaking the Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship Foundation Certificate (Level 3) on a one -year contract starting in September 2025.

The successful applicant will join the Gloucester Cathedral Workshop as full-time members of our outstanding Stonemason Team and may have the opportunity to continue their apprenticeship after the completion of the Foundation Certificate.

The role will include:

  • Assisting in carrying out both general maintenance and specific project work on the Cathedral’s masonry
  • Using a variety of dedicated stone cutting and lifting equipment
  • As part of the Stonemason team, acting as an occasional ambassador for Gloucester Cathedral and its heritage to promote the heritage craft of stonemasonry
