Following consultations with the DAC and the Archdeacons, the Chancellor has now agreed a list of works that can be carried out without a faculty, subject to a List B authorisation from an Archdeacon. An Additional Matters Order, which is effectively an annex to the national “List B” is permitted under section 78 of the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and Care of Churches Measure 2018 and Rule 3.4 of the Faculty Jurisdiction Rules 2015 (as amended).
The benefit of having an additional diocesan list is that various uncontroversial works which currently require a faculty will now be dealt with in line with the List B process, which involves a review by a DAC subcommittee, followed by a decision of an Archdeacon. No formal consultations or displaying a public notice are required, which makes the process simpler and less time-consuming.
A request for authorisation of a matter featuring on the new diocesan list below can be made in the same way as in the case of a List B matter: by creating a List B application on the Online Faculty System and selecting “Additional Diocesan matter” from the list provided there. PCC applicants are advised to contact the Church Buildings Team if they are unsure whether or not the work they wish to carry out can be authorised under the List
That helps to reduce the hard work of our Church Wardens.. That is good. Faculties used to make me groan.
