Bishop Rachel has responded to a report on the impact of body image on mental and physical health, by the Health and Social Care Committee:
“Speaking to young people across Gloucestershire and beyond, I know that social media plays an important role in their lives and that they often negatively compare themselves to both influencers and peers, so I welcome the report on the impact of body image on mental and physical health, by the Health and Social Care Committee.
“The report considers a broad range of evidence and the message is clear: something needs to be done to protect children and young people from a growing dissatisfaction with their bodies. As a Christian, I believe that will are all uniquely created in God’s image and share the message that who you are, is more than how you look. I urge the Government to take the report’s recommendations seriously and implement a cross-government strategy which prevents the mental and physical ill-health associated with poor body image.”
