Catherine Milsom and her son George who have been putting together bagsSchool uniforms and groceries have been gifted to people in the Shurdington area this summer holidays, as part of the continued Greenway Gifts programme.

The church in the Greenway Benefice has been running a weekly collection point called Greenway Gifts Groceries to give groceries to people who need an extra helping hand.

People can come along to St Paul’s Church Hall in Shurdington on a Thursday morning between 10-1 pm to collect a bag of groceries.

There are also tables where clients can choose their other essentials, such as tea or coffee and hygiene/sanitary products if wanted. There is also second-hand school uniform available, to help parents get the uniform up together for the start of the new school year in September.

Catherine Milsom, an ordinand in the benefice said, “Greenway Gifts began in October 2020 during the height of the pandemic. With many parents and carers on reduced hours and reduced wages, we recognised a need to help struggling families. Greenway Gifts Groceries has now become available all year round. These giving projects highlighted to us the very visible need for us to help individuals and families in between seasonal gifting projects.  We have a dedicated phone line and email address that people can ring, email or text (all in confidence) if they would like us to deliver them a grocery bag or two to get them through a tough week.

“We are amazed at the number of families and individuals we have helped. None of these gifting or grocery projects would be possible without the generosity of our donors, either financially or in the giving of food or hygiene products. We also cannot forget all the hard work that goes on by many volunteers behind the scenes to organise and manage these projects.

“I would like to pass on my thanks to the Revd Susan (Cooke) and The Greenway Benefice for their continued love, prayers and support for Greenway Gifts.”
