The Director of Music at St Peter’s Chuch, Winchcombe will be stepping down after 26 years service.

Fiona Brown has been responsible for huge growth in the church choir, bringing it to 50 members, recruited from local schools.

Shelley Hoban, a spokesperson for the parish, said, “Fiona is rigorous in the musical standards she sets for herself and the choir. Yet this is tempered by her unwavering sense of pastoral duty. She has nurtured generations of local children, many of whom have gone on to excel in music making as adults. She has done all this with love, infectious good humour, and boundless energy.

The choir has sung in many Cathedrals as a visiting choir. These include St Paul’s, Gloucester, Bristol and St David’s, with Exeter Cathedral slated for 2019. She has also been a champion of the RSCM’s Voice for Life training scheme. She has not, in her own words, ‘retired’, but will be working with the RSCM here in Gloucestershire, as well as teaching, playing and accompanying.
