“As our Christian communities across the diocese prepare to celebrate Christmas, we want to send heartfelt greetings to Jewish friends and neighbours as you celebrate the festival of Hanukkah, yet we also want to express our deep sorrow and shock following the barbaric killings of Jews celebrating on a beach in Australia. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
“In our commitment to contribute to communities in which all children, young people and adults can flourish, regardless of background, faith and story, we condemn all antisemitic words and action. In our country and world, the ‘othering’ of fellow human beings is abhorrent, and in these days of Hanukkah and Advent when Jews and Christians celebrate the light as stronger than the darkness, we give thanks for one another.”
